Welcome to my very first blog X_x''
This blog, like the Japanese language, marks my first steps into uncharted territory! Like all journeys, mine also has a catalyst. My first forays into Japanese culture came in grade school when I watched Kiki's Delivery Service, by Hayou Miyuzaki. Also, my mom contributed somewhat to my interest in Japan. When she was in graduate school, my mom had a Japanese roommate named Although they lost contact, my mom still keeps some gifts from Japan that ちえこさん gave her. Interestingly enough, one of the American Girl Dolls I bought when I was little had Japanese features, and I named her ちえこさん, after my mom's old roommate. Pokemon cards were also hugely popular in my neighborhood while I was growing up, and naturally, seeing that all of my close childhood friends were boys, I too became part of the Pokemon craze. Then, in middle school, I discovered Yu-gi-oh the television show, anime, manga, and jpop. Although I never became an obsessive fan, I did develop an interest in Japanese history and culture in high school; however, my high school didn't offer any means of pursuing my interests. So, when I came to college, I decided to take Japanese, for both old reasons and new reasons. As a history major, I learned that studying historical documents in their original languages is always the prefered method. So, since I'm interest in Japanese history, naturally being able to speak, write, and read Japanese will be very helpful!

I began studying Japanese 2 weeks ago, and I have only 1h30 on Monday, and 1h30 on Friday, but I would have prefered studying more hours. Our teacher said that you study Japanese each day of the week ! You will progress faster than us ! We have already learnt Hiragana, and we just started learning Katakana, but we are only able to present ourselves to others and to talk a little about things...
I decided to learn Japanese, because I wanted to learn a tongue very différent than French or English, or Italian, and I was interested in Japan, because of its culture, mangas, videos games, etc. That's why I chose Japanese.
And you, I know with you blog why you chose Japanese, but why and when did you decided learning French ? ;)

Buongiorno Michèle !
Bonjour Michèle !
Hello Michèle !
As you said, I can speak 4 tongues, but I am a beginner in Japanese, I am not very good in English, and I stopped studying Italian 6 years ago. That's why I am not a really good foreign tongues speaker.
You said you never went in France, because you can't eat wheat, but will you go in France to visit that country where you like tongue and culture ?
I would like to visit Japan, and also USA and Canada, but I never travelled farther than Great Britain.
You said you are studying Madame Bovary ! It's a difficult French novel... Even for French people, it's difficult ! :D I wish you courage for this study !
You asked me what was the Ecole Polytechnique. It is near Paris, and and it is indeed a military school, and it is the only school of that kind in France. It is military, but very few people continue being military at the end of studies. Indeed, there are others school called "Polytech'" in many cities in France, but there are very different, and less known in France.
In France, mangas are as known as comic books, and it is why many young people are interested by Japanese culture.

The Ecole Polytechnique is not really like West Point, because very few of us continue working in the Army after the school : we become civilian and don't work for the Army.
Before the competitive exam, we are civilian, and we are not considered as in the Army, or in the Air Force, or in the Navy : we have a special status.
For the moment, I don't know what I will do later, which work I will do...
I will see !
And what do you want to do after your studies ?
(if you prefer, you can answer me by email (it is on my profile))
